About the Steinert Marching Unit
The members of the Steinert Marching Unit work hard to be the best they can be at football games and competitions, and have a great deal of fun together. In addition to performing the music and associated choreography for the year's performance (during half time for home games and before the game for away games), they also play music in support of the cheerleaders and football team during three of the four quarters of the game.
Over the years, the sea of Steinert green has become a part of the school's section of the bleachers. This is not just the green of the unit's uniforms but those of the involved parents who come to support their children. This is one of the most important roles members of SMUPA play; being there to cheer on the unit each week.
The pride felt when the drum cadence begins and the members of the unit, heads held high and uniforms and instruments looking so bright in the sun, begin their march onto the field has to be experienced. Once they reach their formation positions on the field, the crowd becomes quiet. Then at the direction of the drum major(s), begin to play. Words fail to capture the moment. It is the precision of the sights and sounds being performed that are the rewards of the many hours of rehearsal and practice, and are the source of happiness and pride for each member of the Steinert Marching Unit Parents Association.
